3 Tips to Choosing the Right Home Painter

When you decided to paint another room, you started your search for a painter. Maybe you looked online, maybe you asked friends, maybe you asked the local DIY store, but how do you choose the right painter.

You have heard horror stories about painters that were sloppy, rude, didn’t do quality work. How do you know if you are getting what you think you are getting.

Here are 3 tips to revealing the type of painter you are getting:

1. Ask for 3-5 references of clients they have done work for in the past 30-60 days. Ask if you can contact them and ask them a few questions. Any quality painter will gladly provide you a few names and help you see their quality.

2. Ask if there will be a project manager on the project and what you can expect before, during and after the project. What type of preparation will the painters do (and not do)? Will they be smoking on site? Are they neat? If they get paint on the floor, will they be cleaning it up? Are they employees are contractors? The more questions you can ask about who will be doing the work, the more comfortable you can be with the painter in knowing they will do a quality job.

3. Find out what is included in the quote and what is not included. Because not all painters quote the same, ask what is not included and have them itemize that on the quote. Often a quote may look lower than others and only once they have begun will you realize the low quote did not cover everything the higher quote covered. So review the quotes carefully. Make sure to ask about the quality paint that will be used, this can greatly affect the price. You GET what you pay for.

By using these 3 tips, you will know what to expect when you hire your next painter.
